Blogger vs. WordPress
Every single one who is new to the field of blogging asks this question. Once they set their mind to create a blog, they are having this confusion of which platform to use and which will be good for them.
I have been in the field of blogging since 2010. I know that this is not much time as compared to many others out there but I would like to share my experience with you so that it would helpful for you to set your dream in the right path.
I started my blogging journey with blogger. It is a very nice platform for a beginner. Google have brought some changes in the user interface. It’s easy to use blogger. If you already have a Gmail account then you can directly log in to blogger with your email and password same as you check your mail and start blogging. Then you need to choose a name for your blog and domain name. Blogger checks whether it is already there, if not you can start blogging in the name you entered otherwise you will need to look for a new name. The user needs to choose a theme for the blog. You can get many blogger themes for free in the internet. You can also purchase themes for your blog from standard designers. In the template section of your dash board you can change the theme by clicking the edit HTML button. Once the layout and other things are set you ready to blog and rock the world. Since blogger is service provided by internet giant Google you can expect a good traffic to your blog if you are posting quality contents in your blog. But at the end it’s your hard work, brainwork and the quality of contents that will draw the traffic not Google.
When I decided to set my foot on WordPress, I got a set of mixed feelings; fear, anxiety etc. It looked like WordPress was complex to use. But I was wrong. It is absolutely easy to use. WordPress offers a much larger collection of inbuilt designs for the blog. You can create a very decent looking blog in minutes with the help of WordPress. The one you are looking at right now was created in just less than 3 minutes.
Though blogger also offers the privilege to change and design themes, it is a bit complex. You will need to do a lot of work to make it look as you wish. If you are person who uses tablets or cell phones more than laptops or desktops then WordPress is the perfect one to go for. WordPress offers a brilliant app for the users. Blogger do have an app which very basic. Most of the services provided by blogger cannot be accessed from the app which is not the case with WordPress app. It offers a wide variety of options for the users. But it’s a fact that the app does have short comings but the advantages it provides will surely cover that. If you are going to create a self hosted blog then too WordPress will be the perfect support and you can see many blogs and sites created with WordPress. I am happy that I am WordPress user more than a blogger user. Now my blog is read in the blogger community. They can see my posts, read that, comment and they can also like that to show support. Every post in WordPress is accompanied by social networking plug-in so it makes easy for your reader to share your thoughts to the world.
Hope this helped you to clear your confusion. My personal opinion is that go for WordPress it have many other advantages you can’t even imagine. If I were to write about that, this post will be a few hundred pages one. But at the end it is your decision. Choose wisely. :)
